JEWELLERY AND SEMIOTICS
I studied comprehensives of jewellery as text, particularly in terms of semiotics as the study of meaning-making, the study of sign processes and meaningful communication. Communication in jewellery was defined in the view of cultural studies with the concept of reading images through visual elements, signs and meanings attributed to them. An understanding of communication is particularly important in the context of jewellery storytelling because at that time jewellery operates as a sign where you can extract an idea, a thought, and the main character; as the concept of narrative image as a sign.
I also considered the thoughts of Roland Barthes, who in his work »Des joyaux et des bijoux«also wrote about jewellery from the perspective of semiotics, which as we have found out at that time already partially demonstrate different, artistic jewellery.
